US Army Contracting Command awarded Sikorsky a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract worth almost $55 million on April 11 for seven UH-60M Black Hawks, uniquely configured for Mexico. The deal is a modification to an $8.5 billion baseline contract awarded to Sikorsky on July 11, 2012, for up to 916 Black Hawk and Seahawk helicopters for the US Army, Navy and FMS customers.

Work will be performed in West Palm Beach, Florida, and it is estimated that it will be completed by February 28, 2019.  It is unclear, as yet, which branch of the Mexican military will operate these helicopters. The Mexican Federal Police already operate S-70A and UH-60M variants, while the Mexican Navy also flies the UH-60M.

The newest Mexican customer for the UH-60M is the Air Force, which recently took delivery of the first six of a batch of 18 on order. They were formally presented in public for the first time on February 10 during a ceremony in Mexico City. Alan Warnes
