HELIBRAS, THE Brazilian subsidiary of Eurocopter, announced on September 18, it had successfully completed the flight tests of self defence systems for the Eurocopter EC725. A total of 50 helicopters have been ordered by the Brazilian Government, with the intention of delivering two to the Presidential Flight and 16 each to the three armed forces.
The new system has been developed by Helibras with support from Eurocopter but includes a locally built chaff and flare launch device. Six flights were made from Santa Cruz Air Force Base, near Rio de Janeiro, to test the systems against threats. Santiago Rivas
