A CEREMONY was held at Boeing’s facility in Ridley Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 23 to hand over the 14th and final Chinook HC6 to the Royal Air Force. Guests at the event included Air Vice Marshal Julian Young, Director Helicopters, Defence Equipment and Support, at the UK Ministry of Defence,, who addressed the assembled audience. Also present were Air Commodore Richard Mason, the UK Joint Helicopter Command Capability Director, together with Group Captain Philip Robinson, the Chinook Force Commander.
The helicopter, serial number ZK563, will now be shipped by sea to the UK, where it is due to arrive around mid-December. It will then be flown to its future home at RAF Odiham, Hampshire, where it is expected to be fully operational by next April. Alan Warnes
