The first of six search and rescue/combat search and rescue (SAR/CSAR)-configured Airbus Helicopters EC725s had now been delivered. The RTAF announced yesterday that it has been handed over in a ceremony at the factory in Marignane, France.
Under a contract signed on September 18, 2012, the RTAF ordered an initial four SAR/CSAR EC725s. This was followed by a further order for two more that was announced by the manufacturer on October 22, 2014. The first four are all due for delivery this year, while the latter pair will be delivered in 2017.
All six are to be operated by 2 Wing at Lop Buri Air Base. They will replace the elderly UH-1H Iroquois that are currently used by the unit in the SAR role. Alan Warnes
