A US Air Force Foreign Military Sales contract has been awarded to L-3 Communications to supply the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) with four intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft. The $9.78 million deal was announced by the US Department of Defense on September 28.
The aircraft involved will be four ISR-configured Iomax/Air Tractor AT-802U Border Patrol Aircraft, which will be unarmed but equipped with a Wescam MX-15 electro-optical infra-red sensor. They will be used to support counter-terrorism operations in Jordan. The contract, which also includes pilot, maintainer and mission system training, is to be completed by September 30, 2016.
L-3 had previously been awarded a contract on June 2, 2014, to supply these four aircraft to Yemen. However, due to the current political situation in Yemen, that contract was cancelled and the aircraft are being diverted instead to Jordan. Alan Warnes
