France’s Defence Procurement Agency, the DGA, has ordered six additional NH90 helicopters in tactical troop transport (TTH) configuration. This brings the total number of NH90 TTHs on order for the French Army Aviation Corps (ALAT) to 74.
The order was announced by Airbus Helicopters on January 7. However, the DGA confirmed at the same time that actual contract signature had taken place on December 30.
“The French armed forces have deployed the NH90 operationally in Mali where its outstanding endurance, versatility and manoeuvrability have been greatly appreciated”, said Guillaume Faury, President and CEO of Airbus Helicopters. “This additional order for six NH90s, to be delivered in 2017 – 2019, confirms the essential role that new-generation multirole helicopters play in modern operations” he added.
A total of 17 TTHs have so far been delivered to the ALAT, while 15 NH90 NFH variants (out of 27 on order for the French Navy) have also been delivered. It is planned to deliver 44 TTHs to the ALAT by 2019.To date, around 270 NH90 helicopters have been delivered to 13 countries and have logged nearly 100,000 flight hours. Alan Warnes
