THE ARMED Forces of Malta (AFM) has taken delivery of a second AgustaWestland AW139, which will primarily be used for search-and-rescue and border patrol missions. The helicopter was delivered to the AFM Air Wing’s base at Luqa-Malta International Airport on December 18.
It joins the first AFM AW139, which was delivered last year and formally inducted into service on August 6. An option is also held on a third example.
The equipment package of both AW139s includes a high-definition FLIR system, search/weather radar, naval transponder, searchlight, cabin mission console, satellite communications system, four-axis autopilot with SAR mode, external rescue hoist and four-bag flotation system. Alan Warnes
