VIKING AIR has delivered a total of five Twin Otter 400s to the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN), while a sixth now handed-over and due to arrive in the country in early October. In addition, Pacific Sky Aviation has trained an additional ten VPN pilots to fly the aircraft. The aircrew completed their intensive 20‐month flight training programme on September 22.
An initial group of 26 students from the VPN had completed the first phase of a multi‐year flight and maintenance training programme on the type with Pacific Sky in 2013. Viking Air had announced on May 4, 2010, that the VPN had ordered six Twin Otter 400s, comprising three standard configuration aircraft and three outfitted at Guardian 400 maritime patrol aircraft. The aircraft are being acquired for transport, resupply, maritime surveillance and SAR operations throughout Vietnam’s coastal regions. Alan Warnes
